Parameter Study of Hysteretic Behavior of Steel Deep Beams

Steel plate deep beam (SPDB) is placed in the steel moment frames and connected with frame beams by high strength friction bolts. Commercial computer program ANSYS was used to analyse the hysteretic behavior of the steel deep beams with different depth-to-span ratio and depth-to-thickness ratio. The steel deep beams with stiffeners filled in the steel flame can effectively improve the lateral resisting stiffness of the structures and meet the requirements of a wide range variation of the lateral stiffness to the structures. The original stiffness and ultimate bearing capacity are increased with decrement of depth-to-span ratio or depth-to-thickness ratio. The energy dissipation capacity or ductility of the steel deep beam is increased and then decreased with decrement of depth-to-span ratio or depth-to-thickness ratio. The values of depth-to-span ratio 1.5 and the depth-to-thickness ratio between 168 and 225 are suggested for the SPDB with full stiffeners that can be used in both new structures and structural reinforcement.
