Failure Process for Single-Layer Reticulated Domes under Impact Loads
Four failure modes (no failure, moderate failure, severe failure, and slight failure) are the generalized observed in the dynamic response of the single-layer reticulated dome under vertical impact load on apex. TE (the time that the end of impact force) and TF (the time that members broken) are two key times in failure process. Characteristic of dynamic responses at the two key times are shown in order to make the failure mechanic clear. Two situations of failure process appear. One which the shape of impact load is completed triangle is divided into three steps,as the other which the shape of impact load is uncompleted triangle is divided into two steps. Moreover, three steps of energy transfer are summarized, energy applying, energy loss and energy transfer, energy consumption. The first step is from beginning of impact load to TE.Impact energy transfers to local part of reticulated dome during this time. The second step is from TE to TF. Impact energy transfers to the whole reticulated dome during this time. The third step is from TF to the end. Energy is consumed by vibrating of reticulated dome.
