Key Issues of Yitong Concrete-Filled Steel Tube Arch Bridge
Concrete-filled Steel Tube (CFST) arch Bridges is becoming a very important type of large span bridges in China because of their light weight, high load baring capacity, material efficiency, construction convenience and low cost. Up till now there are about more then 300 CFST arch bridges built in china with the largest span reaching 460m. Yitong Bridge is a three span half through CFST arch bridge; the total span is 260m and the CFST main span is 158m.In this paper, the structural characteristics, design, and construction key issues are introduced. In order to maintain the arch shape, the arch pre-cambering is analyzed after considering the stress accumulation. The construction process of the V structures that support the CFST arch ribs is discussed by using finite element program MIDAS; the corresponding bracing systems and procedure are suggested. In addition,as the bulk size concrete casting causes high hydration heat, the main span platforms face serious problems because of the large concrete volume. A 3D temperature study on the concrete platform is carried out for the effects of both cooling water pipes and batch concrete casting. Prediction is also made for the concrete temperature of the platforms.
