Application of High Strength Structural Steel in Buildings
With structural steel becoming the main construction material in China,high strength steel(HSS) or high performance steel(HPS) had been applied in more building projects. The excellent properties of HSS and HPS had provided engineers an innovative solution to construct more efficient and economical steel structures. This paper reviews the development and application of HSS and HPS in buildings. The steel grades of HSS and HPS for buildings currently available in China are introduced. The mechanical properties of HSS and HPS are discussed and summarized. The researches on design methods of applying HSS and HPS in buildings are outlined.
