The formative process of the urban residential spaces in the old town of Barcelona focusing on Balconies
Baes are concerned with various aspects like urban scenery, cultural climate,dwelling spaces, construction technology and regulation. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to clarify multi-laterally the evolving process of the historic urban spaces in the old town of Barcelona focusing on balconies. The transition of balconies in the evolving process of the old town is studied from the 17th century to the 19th century. Balconies appeared in the 17th century in Barcelona, and diffused through the 18th century in the trend of the renovation and the extension of buildings.Todays urban orderly scenery in the old town was formed in the first half of the 19th century when the facades were strictly regulated. Materials and construction methods used for balconies are wrought iron beams, stone plates, and steel beams and Catalonia Vault in chronological order.
