Structure and Design of Corner-connections in the Korean Traditional House
Making a corner-connection in a building with a plan of L-shape requires special skills and considerations in East Asian wooden structure. It is a matter of controlling the slope of the roof and structure simultaneously. In Korean traditional houses, however, corner connection had been widely used. It enriches the diversity of the Korean traditional house and characterizes their appearance. While the principle of corner connection guarantees the diversity, dominant types do exist. Structural efficiency and design integrity seems to be the key factors to make specific types structure and roof shapes dominant.
