A Study on the Emission Rate of HCHO and VOCs after each Application of Environment-Friendly Architectural Materials

The study thus was intended to measure and evaluate the HCHO and VOCs generated by environment-friendly materials at each construction stage, and eventually to improve the indoor air quality. Considerable amount of TVOC after flooring and kitchen furniture was detected, which was attributable to using wooden material and adhesives that generated the pollutants. On the other hand, TVOC was drastically decreased after application of diatomite and charcoal tile, proving excellent absorption and dissolution function of diatomite and charcoal tile. Though its necessary to use the proved environment-friendly and functional building material, but more importantly, thorough construction management and using the material reducing the pollutant are needed to improve the indoor air quality.
