NANO/MICROSTRUCTURES OF AZOBENZENE-CONTAINING POLYMERS AND THEIR PROPERTIES
Azobenzene-containing polymers (azo polymers for short) can show a variety of photoresponsive properties related to photoisomerization of the azo chromophores.Constructing Nano/micrometer structures of azo polymers can endow the miniature materials with novel photoresponsive functions.Some recent progresses obtained in authors group will be communicated in this report.Polydispersed amphiphilic azo polymers were used to fabricate nano/micrometer structure through selfassembling process. Results show that the azo polymers can form uniform colloidal spheres in selective solvents. The colloidal sphere in the solid state can be stretched upon the irradiation of the linearly polarized Ar+ laser single-beam or interfering beams. The azo polymer colloidal spheres can self-assemble into ordered two-dimensional arrays. When the 2D colloidal arrays are exposed to polar solvent such as THF, the colloidal arrays can transform to ordered porous films with pore size in submicrometer scale.
