Mechanical Behaviors of Reinforced Concrete L-shaped Columns Subjected to High Temperature

Three full-scale reinforced concrete (R.C) columns with L-shaped cross section and one full-scale RC column with square cross section were experimentally investigated in fire following ISO834 standard heating process to to investigate the behaviours of L-shaped columns exposed to fire. A numerical model based on 3-Dimensional thermal solid element and 3-Diminstional beam element was proposed in this paper. Details of fire resistance experiment, together with results, were presented. Predictions from the numerical method were compared with results from full-scale fire resistance tests. The results indicate that: (1) the fire resistance of L-shaped column is lower than that of square column. When the axial ratio is 0.55, the fire resistance of L-shaped column is 60% of that with square cross section. (2) axial load ratio has significant effect on the fire resistance of L-shaped column. (3) the numerical model is feasible to predict the behaviours of L-shaped column subjected to high temperature.
