Effects of Output Peaking Capacitor on Underwater Streamer Propagation
In this paper, the effects of the output peaking capacitor on the underwater streamer propagation are reported. A copper needle with 0.43 mm in diameter was used as a high voltage electrode, and an Aluminium plate was connected to ground with a 2cm gap from needle tip. Pulsed streamer propagation in tap water with conductivity of 225μS/cm was observed using an intensified charge-coupled display (ICCD) camera with a high-speed gate. An output peaking capacitor was connected in parallel with point-to-plate electrodes. From the results, it was observed that the streamer discharges formed thick and small channels in the case of without a peaking capacitor. Thin and average distribution channels were observed in the case of using a peaking capacitor.
