ROLE OF RELIABILITY ANALYSIS IN OPTIMIZATION OF PREVENTIVE AINTENANCE TIME INTERVAL: A CASE STUDY
Provision of reliable rolling stock and infrastructure equipments is an important part in achieving good levels of safety. Therefore, the railway industry has searched for ways to improve the performance of subsystems, both to ensure safety and reliability which are the key factors in transportation, both for passengers and for cargo. The objective of this study is to enhance the ability of rail services to run safely and on time using reliability analysis. The first part of the paper introduces the rolling stock maintenance strategies and the concept of reliability. The second part of the paper presents reliability analysis of a case study in Raja Passenger Corporation in Iran concerning the wheel set of coaches. The result of the paper show that wheel sets are the bottleneck, and then it utilizes the historical data of various types of wheel sets and analysis them to acquire the reliability function. Thereafter, the reliability of each type of wheel sets will be identified in different time intervals and it can be used to determine the appropriate time of preventive maintenance tasks.
