CRUCIAL POINTS ANALYSIS IN COMPLEX SYSTEM BASED ON COMPLEX NETWORK THEORY
Today, safety in many large-scale integrated engineering systems has become one of the mostly concerned issues. This paper presents a novel method to find components really crucial for the safety of the whole system from the perspective of complex network theory. Taking the structural decomposition into consideration and ignoring the real meanings of the physical components, the complex system can be modelled as a complex network, and then the topological structure characteristics of system and its influence to faults propagation are investigated. Subsequently, incorporating with the probabilistic of the fault propagation, a method considering the properties of network are proposed to study the inherent vulnerability of the complex system. A case study of symtetramethyl benzene (STBZ) production system is provided to illustrate our work, and to verify that the topology of the network plays a crucial role in determining the systems safety performance. The result shows that the proposed method can help to identify the crucial points in complex system, and can also be used for the safety assessment and maintenance strategies to complex system.
