RELIABILITY ANALYSIS BASED ON PERFORMANCE DEGRADATION MODEL OF MULTIVARIATE NORMAL DISTRIBUTION
Performance degradation is a phenomenon that the working ability of product deteriorates over time. For highly reliability or long life products, the performance degradation data provides more useful information than failure time. As for the limitations of using these data to evaluate the multivariate degradation measures, the multivariate normal distribution theory was introduced, and a new approach based on multivariate normal distribution was presented. The correlation between multivariate degradation measures was considered, and the assessment procedures about joint probability density function were proposed. Then the models of dependence and independence between multivariate degradation measures were established based on multivariate normal distribution. Specially, an example of pump in hydraulic system was given to validate the effectiveness of this approach. With the consideration of the linear relationship between flow and speed, the variance-covariance matrix was established. The result showed that, when a system included multivariate degradation measures, ignoring the dependence may underestimate the system reliability.
