INVESTIGATION ON RELIABILITY CENTERED MAINTENANCE ABOUT ROTATING MACHINE

In order to optimize maintenance management of the rotating machine in petrochemical plant, the concept of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) is introduced and an application case is presented. Some new concepts are applied to RCM. The new methodology of RCM includes collection of information, system division, failure mode and failure causes analysis, risk assessment of failure mode, inspection/monitoring and maintenance recommendation. In this methodology, risk assessment method and criteria for every failure mode are established including lost production risk,environment risk, safety risk and maintenance cost risk. Aiming at common cause of failure, based on the level of risk for every failure mode, monitoring/inspection and management advice are proposed. We present the results obtained into a Sinopec ethylene plant. The results have demonstrated that this methodology can avoid successfully excess maintenance and inadequate maintenance, and provide reliable and scientific basis for maintenance decision making. In the RCM implementation, staffs have a better understanding for equipment functions, failure mode and cause of the failure, also the collaboration of staffs between the maintenance of the relevant departments is greatly enhanced.
