CLEANSING ENGINEERING ASSET MANAGEMENT DATA THROUGH TOOLS - HOW FAR DO THEY GO IN ACHIEVING DATA QUALITY?
Engineering organizations rely heavily on a wide range of information systems and applications to achieve effective operations and maintenance strategies. Many a times, these organizations do not succeed in realising the full potential of information system they have installed because of poor quality data contained in these systems. One approach amongst many others is to use data cleansing tools to improve the quality of data. Data encountered in engineering asset organization are more complex when compared to data generally found in business systems. This poses new challenges as the commercially available data cleansing tools were primarily developed to handle business data. This paper examines available data cleansing tools to assess how far they can be used to handle engineering data and suggests possible improvements that can be done to achieve this.
