A CERTIFICATION PROGRAM FOR ASSET MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONALS

The Asset Management Council has established a definition and overview model of Asset Management to create a standard definition and language for this domain. The Asset Management Council has also developed an enabling framework outlining the technologies and processes that define the scope of Asset Management. This framework is being used to collate current theory and practical knowledge that contribute to the Engineering Asset Management Body of Knowledge. Stakeholders in the asset management community have identified the lack of a certification system for asset management practitioners. As a peak body in the asset management community, the Asset Management Council has responded to this opportunity. The development of a certification program for Asset Management is based on identifying current and missing competencies in the domain, mapping those competencies in asset management to relevant international bodies, and developing a compliant certification program. This paper describes the various influences on the development of a certification program, as well as the alignment of competencies with other competency initiatives.
