Small Surface Crack Size Identification Based on Ultrasonic Energy Reflection and Refraction

The small surface crack size estimation based on ultrasonic energy reflection and refraction technique has been studied in order to overcome the pulse echo and time of flight diffraction technique limitation. The model of reflection and refraction at solid-solid interface was deduced, and then the crack size by energy reflection changing was also studied. Experimental results are used to demonstrate the advantage of the proposed method.

Pulse echo Time of flight diffraction Energy reflection Refraction.
