Simulation for Decision Making in Product Development
This paper describes research on the development of a dynamic simulation model, which enables the imitation of the behaviour and characteristics of new system or product in the future use. The model consists of databases, knowledge base and Monte Carlo simulation, and integrates the whole product life cycle stages and evaluates what if scenarios for different configurations over time. As a result, a comparison of the products with and without the new system features can be made, and the benefits from the new system or product can be quantified and assessed. The model is applied to a refrigeration product with a new system called ELIMA. It is shown that the model can be used to help managers in decision-making for the development of a new system or product.
