To Be or Not To Be - Reference Disciplines and The Information Systems Field

The role that reference disciplines play in the information systems field has been subject to an ongoing debate in recent years. While some researchers consider reference discipline a crucial part for future development of the IS field, some others disagree. This study focus on explicating the major benefits and concerns rising from the IS fields heavy reliance on the reference disciplines and conclude with directions regarding how the IS field should best leverage reference disciplines in the future.
