Telecommunications Regulation and Market Competition in China: Analysis and Suggestions
As an emerging industry, the telecom industry contributes a lot to the national economy development around the world. Over the past decade, Chinas telecom industry maintained twice the average GDP growth rate .In 2006, the telecommunications business volume grew by 26.1%, reaching 1.45921 trillion Yuan,much higher than Chinas 2006 GDP growth rate of 10.7%. This paper analyzes Chinas telecommunications industry regulation and the status of competition in the market, citing some challenges and problems in the development, and gives some suggestions by drawing on the successful experience of telecommunications industry reform of the developed countries. In general, improving the telecommunications legislation,independent telecommunications regulatory & anti-trust and the introduction of full competition are the fundamental solutions.Therefore, Chinese telecommunications operators can grow into world-class operators.
