Modeling Concurrent Processes for Project Performance Improvement

This research presents an analytical model of concurrent engineering,where two dependent development stages are executed simultaneous to improve project performance. We first investigate the priority ordering of initial development and rework and the earliest start time of downstream stage. Our study shows that initial development is prior to rework when learning effect is taken into account. Then, based on above results, we derive the optimal concurrency between development stages. The methodology is illustrated with a case study at a handset design company.
