Collaborative Factors of Project Success in Construction Industry in China
In the last two decades, Chinese construction industry has been booming resulting from the economy development. As construction industry is highly fragmented and has been deplored worldwide for being very adversarial, collaborative performance is essential to project success. Based on literature review and face-to-face interviews with construction experts, a survey questionnaire on collaborative factors influencing the success of construction projects in China mainland was used to collect data. 300 project managers from clients, contractors and project supervisors in Shanghai, Changsha and Qingdao were interviewed and 273 are qualified. Factor analysis was conducted first on the 48 predictive variables and 12 factors, which might influencing the project success has been found,then discriminate analysis tested the differences of the factors between successful and failed projects. Partners relationship has been especially emphasized and the improvements of team working have been provided. The results of the questionnaire survey could generate some recommendations to alleviate the barriers of understanding between partners and successfully handle the construction projects in China or the Sino-foreign partnering projects allover the world.
