Tissue Engineering Applications of Rapid Prototyping
Tissue engineering, a promising newly developed research field during last two decades, aims to reproduce personalized alternatives of human organs in vitro or in vivo. The pivot of tissue engineering is to construct the complex of cells and scaffolds. To mimic the inner conditions of organs, scaffolds should provide temporary support for cells growth. Rapid prototyping has been widely used in tissue engineering. This paper presents two important RP technologies for tissue engineering applications:the Low-temperature Deposition Manufacturing (LDM) and the 3D Direct Controlled Cell Assembly Technology, of which basic principle, process, new progress and the potential prospects were introduced and discussed.
