Fabrication of Repairing Skull Bone Defects based on the Rapid Prototyping
Aiming at the doctor cant prepare the operations on bone repairing because of the peoples differences in their body shape, age, body height and so on. The technology of Rapid Prototyping (RP) manufacture, Computer Tomography (CT) image processing and mechanical analysis was adopted. After the patient was inspected by spiral Computer Tomography the patients inspection data was exported in the format of Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM). The data was processed by the MIMICS software in order to eliminate noise, gray-level registration, image edit and so on. The processing filtrated the data of parenchyma and preserved the data of bone. The STL files were put into the MAGICS software after they were generated by the MIMICS. The STL files which were analyzed and processed by the MAGICS were put into the rapid prototyping machine. The rapid prototyping machine is one type of Stereo Lithography Apparatus (SLA )whose laser light spot diameter is not more than 0.2 mm. In the last the 3 dimensional models were analyzed in order to accord with the patients require. The conclusion was got by the examination of SLA production. The Stereo lithographic model is very exact in the mechanical properties and shape with the patients bone. The titanium-alloy plate matched the anatomy well. The 3D reconstructed freeform model is accurate within a maximum tolerance of 0.2 mm.
