Sustainable Intensive Pig Husbandry in Rural Areas of Centre China based on System Dynamics Model
Intensive pig husbandry is challenged to comply with severe environmental impaction and remain economically viable. Utilization of livestock residue is important not only for energy recovery and material recycling but also for preventing environmental pollution. This paper presents a system dynamics model as a decision support system tool for the resource utilization engineering of the anaerobic digestion outputs in rural areas of Centre China, such as biogas utilization engineering, separating anaerobic digester effluent from irrigating water engineering, and the winter fallow cropland & the hilly land developed engineering. With the analysis approach based on the SD rate variable fundamental in-tree model, and simulation with the model suggested that policies of encouraging more farmers to utilize bio-energy of biogas, separating anaerobic digester effluent from irrigating water, enhancing the using efficiency of land in the system, integrating development of breeding and planting industry, and government supporting in money and technology may help shift the system toward sustainability.
