The Use of Vertically Crossed Electric Field to Removal of Hyper-Cr From Contaminated Soil

Chromium contaminated soil could be remediated by electrokinetic technique. In practical application of traditional electrokinetic remediation, Cr (VI) may migrate to the deep soil with water. This paper investigated the effectiveness of simultaneously applied vertical direct and horizontal direct electric fields to remediate hyper-Cr(Cr VI) contaminated soil and prevent Cr (VI) from moving downwards. For this purpose, contrast experiments of two operation modes (sole horizontal and vertically crossed) was designed and tested at bench-scale with a model practical chromium contaminated soil (1.3×105mg/kg) from a chemical plant. The results demonstrated that Cr (VI) migrated to deep soil at sole horizontal mode, in addition, the closer the anode was, the more the Cr (VI) penetrated to downwards. At vertically crossed mode,Cr (VI) migration in downwards was prevented obviously, and Total Cr and Cr (VI) ion removal efficiencies were higher than sole horizontal mode.
