Recycle Technology of Waste Printed Circuit Boards in China

Based on circular economy concept in China, resource utilization of waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) is becoming a hot topic from environmental protection and the use of renewable resources viewpoints. However, treatment for waste PCBs is a challenge due to complex structure and particularity of PCBs, and recycle technology for waste PCBs in China is still immature. As the value of metals in waste PCBs is the major economic drive, previous studies mainly focus on metals recovery. However, resource utilization for nonmetallic materials and further separation of the mixed metals are relatively fewer. Therefore, it is urgently needed to develop a proper recycle technology for waste PCBs. In this paper, current status of waste PCBs treatment and recycling technologies in China were introduced. In order to protect environment and alleviate bottleneck restraints on economic development by resources shortage in China, a new environmental-friendly integrated recycling process with no pollution and high efficiency for waste PCBs was provided and discussed in detail.
