Effects of PEG on the Performance of SR/PAN Composite Membranes for O2/N2 Separation
The asymmetric membrane were prepared via phase inversion process from the casting solution composed of polyacrylonitrile (PAN), polyethylene glycol (PEG), N,N-dimethyl- formamide (DMF). Water was chosen as the coagulant. The silicon rubber (SR) was coated on the substrate surface as the selective layer. The effect of the PEG with different molecular weight on the membrane structure and their performance were investigated by scanning electron microscope observations, the measurement of the oxygen permeation rate and the selectivity of oxygen/nitrogen. The results shown that the composite membrane with 6% PEG-400, 4% PEG-600, 2% PEG-1000 (w/w) in the membrane casting solution exhibited the performance of the oxygen permeation rate with 407 GPU, 352 GPU and 377 GPU as well as the selectivity of oxygen/nitrogen with 2.07, 2.10 and 2.09, respectively.
