Refractive Index and Density of [Bmim] and [Emim]-based Ionic Liquids
In this work, the refractive index and density of some ionic liquids (ILs) have been measured and correlated. The studied ILs were [Bmim][BF4], [Bmim][PF6],[Bmim][MeSO4], and [Bmim][CF3SO3]. The refractive indices of the studied ILs were measured over the temperature range from (298 to 308) K using a commercial refractometer. The measurement uncertainty of the refractometer is ±0.0003 for refractive index (with water as reference at 298 K). Refractive indices of ILs were presented as a function of temperature. The densities of ILs were measured over the temperature range of (298 to 353) K using a viscometer. The repeatability of the was ±0.002 K. The estimated uncertainty of the density measurements was ±0.0004 contribution-based equation of state was employed to predict the densities of the investigated ILs. A modified Eykman equation was used to correlate the relation between the refractive index and density. The correlations give satisfactory results. The present results were also in good agreement with available literature data.
