Production of 1,3-propanediol by Klebsiella pneumoniae induced by dielectric barrier discharge plasma
Cells of Klebsiella pneumoniae CGMCC 1206 were induced by dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma to improve 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PD) production. Under a 4-min exposure, the substrate tolerance of the induced inoculum was enhanced in the batch fermentation. Furthermore, the microbial growth in fed-batch fermentation with the induced inoculum was faster than the control. The concentration, molar yield and productivity of 1,3-PD in fed-batch fermentation with the induced inoculum were 46.8 g l -1 , 0.49 mol mol -1 and 1.51 g l -1 h -1 , respectively. The volumetric productivity of 1,3-PD was a 40% increase under plasma inducement than that of the control that reached 1.08 g l -1 h -1 .
