Effect of high temperature treatment on the pore texture and electric properties of activated carbons

High surface area activated carbon (AC) was heat-treated at high temperatures to improve the work-voltage of double layer capacitors (EDLCs). Effects of the high-temperature treatment on the pore structure and its electric performance were researched. After the original AC was heat-treated at 1500 for 2 ℃ h, its specific surface area and total pore volume decreased from 1312 to 947 m 2 /g, 0.87 to 0.57 cm 3 /g, respectively, while the work-voltage of capacitor can stabilize at 2.7 V even if it was charge/discharged for 6000 cycles and its connection resistance Rc decrease from 54.9 to 12.7Ω.
