Preparation of Spherical Molecularly Imprinted Polymers from Macroporous Precursor Particles in Aqueous Media
The macroporous polymethyl methacrylate precursor particles were prepared by suspension polymerization. The influence of the crosslinking degree and the amount of porogenic agent on the morphology and structure of the precursor particles was studied. The spherical molecularly imprinted polymers with recognition to L-tryptophan were then produced in aqueous media by chemical modification of the macroporous precursor particles. The static binding experiments were carried out to investigate the adsorption properties of SMIPs. The SMIPs showed higher adsorption capacity for L-trp than the non-SMIPs, and the imprinting factor was up to 3.74.
