Research on the large-scale installations potential of Compound Bed Reactor using for low pressure methanol synthesis

Currently, methanol is widely used as chemical material and energy sources, and the demanded quantity of methanol is larger and larger. Because the uniserial large-scale installation of low pressure methanol synthesis can remarkably reduce the cost of investment and production,the development of large-scale installation of methanol synthesis will be the major direction of future development of methanol producing technique. This paper is concerning the characteristic research of temperature distribution and catalystic space-time yield of methanol synthesis in a compound bed reactor whose diameter is 100mm and height is 2810mm. From the research we figure out that in the compound bed reactor the axial temperature difference is not more than 10 ℃ and radial temperature difference is less than 2 ℃without any heat-exchanger rigs. And the space-time yield of the catalyst can reach 17.02 t/t cat/d under industrially relevant conditions (P=4.8MPa, T=543.15K, GHSV=10000h -1 , H2/CO/CO2=70/25/5). Compared the results with the domestic and foreign industrialized methanol synthesis reactors, the compound bed reactor has the advantages of comparatively homogeneous temperature distribution, low bed pressure drop, great mass transfer coefficient, high catalystic space-time yield, great utilization ratio of catalyst and easy operation of loading and unloading the catalysts and examining and maintaining the reactor.Thereby, the compound bed reactor is prone to be scaled up and has great potential in methanol synthesis industry.
