Performance of Steel Slag as Absorbent for Wet FGD Process in Rotating-stream-tray Scrubber

In this paper, the steel slag is developed as a new absorbent used for the wet FGD process in rotating-stream-tray scrubber. During the experiments the catalysis and synergistic effects of microelements contained in the steel slag has been investigated, and effects of some key operating parameters such as liquid/gas ratio, pH value of the absorbent solution, inlet SO2 concentration, and temperatures on SO2 removal efficiency have been studied. The experimental results show that the SO2 removal efficiency can reach above 90% under conditions as following: the inlet temperature is 20℃,the concentration of the absorbent solution is 2%, and liquid/gas ratio is above 4.85. Furthermore, the microelements Fe2O3, MgO have a positive function on the increase of SO2 removal efficiency. It is concluded that the steel slag is a suitable absorbent for the wet FGD process in rotating-stream-tray scrubber.
