Research on Abatement of VOCs by Emulsion Liquid Memberanes

In this paper, an ELMs process of removing butyl acetate from stimulated gas was studied in laboratory scale. The emulsion liquid membranes applied in the experiments were water-in-oil-in-water (W/O/W) type globules with petroleum ether as intermediate phase. Two kinds of Polyisobutylene-succimide T151 and T155 were applied as emulsifying agents respectively to prepare W/O/W emulsion liquid membranes. The effects of water content, surfactant concentration, emulsifying velocity on stability of water-in-oil emulsions and absorption efficiency were studied respectively, and the factors impacting removal efficiency of VOCs were investigated. It was found out that on the optimal emulsion conditions the systems absorption efficiency could reach more than 80%. The optimal emulsion conditions in the experiments for removing butyl acetate were provided as follows: emulsifying velocity at 400 rpm, oil-water ratio at 1:1, emulsion-water ratio at 1:4, T151s weight concentration at 6% (T151 as surfactant); oil-water ratio at 1:1, emulsion-water ratio at 1:4, T155s weight concentration at 4% (T155 as surfactant).
