Contribution of Petroleum Consumption to Atmospheric Mercury Emission Inventory

Mercury content of commercial gasoline and diesel were determined and compared. Results indicated that mercury content of various petroleum were 0.194 ng·mL -1 ~3.496ng·mL -1 , similar to some results in USA but lower than the emission factor used currently in some mercury inventory reports . Based on the petroleum official statistic data and emission factors estimated in this study, the mercury emission due to Consumption of gasoline and diesel combustion in whole China was estimated to be 103.6Kg, of which Shanghai occupied about 8.75Kg in 2005.Although the mercury emission factor of gasoline and diesel combustion is much lower, compared with that from coal combustion, it can not be ignored.
