Numerical Simulation of Gel Formation from Waxy Oils under Static Conditions

A mathematical model, based on one-dimensional radial unsteady-state heat transfer considerations, was presented to model gel formation from multicomponent mixtures in a circular pipe under static conditions. A modified regular solution theory model was adopted for the thermodynamic calculations. The partial differential equations for unsteady-state heat transfer in both the liquid and deposit layers were solved numerically. The temperature profiles in both liquid and solid regions and the times for complete gelling have been obtained. The complete pipe gelling was predicted to be slower for higher initial mixture temperature.Compared with the other model based on heat transfer, this model could be used for multicomponent waxy mixtures and with more extensive applicability.
