Photocatalytic Degradation of Methyl Orange using Nanocrytalline Zeolite TS-1 in Aqueous Suspension
Photocatalytic properties of nanocrytalline TS-1 was examined via a degradation reaction of aqueous Methyl Orange (MO) solution as a model compound. Nanocrystalline zeolite TS-1 of about 50 nm was synthesized from an initial clear solution of TPAOH- TiO2- SiO2-H2O system. The prepared materials were characterized by XRD, BET, FT-IR and TEM techniques. The experimental parameters such as initial concentration of MO, catalyst loading, pH and light intensity were optimized for maximum degradation efficiency. The progress of photocatalytic degradation of aqueous MO solution was monitored using UV-vis spectrophotometer.
