A New Processing for Preparation of Chitin
The method using the Solution of Citric and Malic Acid (CMA) as well as HCl to decalcify in Chitin preparation was studied by IR and chitin properties has been analyzed. The results showed that CMA could replace HCl in chitin production for decalcifying. Especially owing to the decalcifying mechanism possessed by CMA, there was nearly no damage to the chitin molecular chains during the process. The molecule mass of its product was larger than that product treated by HCl and the ash content was quite lower. Therefore, the high molecular mass chitin and chitosan could be obtained, and all the other properties such as productivity, demineralization degree and color etc. were better than that product treated by HCl. Calcium citrate malate could be obtained at the same time. This process could reduce the pollution in chitin production, and its cost was not high than the process with HCl.
