Determination of Shoot Load Based on Optimized Wine Grape Quality and Yield
By using regression analysis and multiple objective programming, this paper studies the effect of shoot density as the main cultivation parameter and fruit set and inter-node shoot length as the secondary control indices on Cabernet Sanvignon fruit sugar content, wine color and yield, and found that a shoot density of 14/m can realize the yield demand while achieving high wine quality object under certain production conditions. The shoot load,i.e.shoot density (shoot amount per unit Trellis) has a close relationship with grape yield and quality. In general cases, the grape yield increases with the shoot density.Meanwhile, the grape quality also has close correlation with yield: the quality will get improved as the yield increases under certain conditions, however, when the yield exceeds a certain point the grape quality may descend thereafter 1.Rational shoot load to some extent depends on growth trend, trellis space and shaping and pruning methods, which are not only related to grape varieties but also affected by such factors as soil and climate conditions etc.According to Reynolds et al (1994) and Smart (1988),a shoot density of 15-25/m (depending on varieties) is advantageous to achieve improved canopy microclimate, higher fruit rote, better resistance, higher sugar content, lower titrated acid, distinct variety characteristics and good color,as compared to a shoot density of more than 25/m.Based on Seyval blanc experiment Reynolds et al (1986) reported that the rational shoot amount should be 13~14/m under local conditions.Undesirably low shoot density, especially achieved by over-pruning,may lead to excessive vegetable growth and affect the accumulation of photosynthetic products of fruit. Therefore, suitable shoot density is favorably not only for obtaining reasonable production but also for achieving required quality and healthy tree body.Yet there is no report on determination of shoot load under specific soil conditions by using mathematics method for optimizing wine grape quality and yield. In the experiment described herein,we take the shoot density as the main cultivation index and fruit set and inter-node shoot length as the secondary control indices and use regression analysis and Multiple objective programming method to determine a high-quality-high-yield Cabemet Sauvignon model for achieving optimized fruit sugar content, wine color and yield.
