Response of Harmonia axyridis (Pallas) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)collected from different habitats to aphid-induced plant volatiles
In this paper, the response of Harmonia axyridis ab Conspicua collected from different habitats to the odor of different plants infested with different aphids is investigated by Y-tube lfactometer. The results showed that the ladybirds collected respectively from Chinese Prickly Ash yard, cornfield, poplar seedlings and apple orchard can be attracted to odor sources of different plants infested by different aphids. Among them are Zanthoxylum bungeanum infested by Aphis gossypii, Punica granatum by A.gossypii, Hibiscus syriacus by A.gossypii, Euonymus japonica by A.gossypii, Chaenome speciosa by A.citricola, Tritucum aestivum by Schizaphis graminum and Populus tomentosa by Chaitophorus populeti as well. This experiment explores a new approach and method of evaluating the effectiveness of importation or transplantation of natural enemies.
