Cache Management Method for Query forwarding Optimization in the Grid Database
A cache is used for query forwarding optimization in a grid database. A cache reduces query forwarding cost as it fetches and preserves the metadata of data from the meta-database previously and exploits the preserved information. The existing cache management method has the problematic point that it causes the imbalance in replication resource utilization frequency as a cache fetches a random metadata among data without considering the utilization frequency of replication resource. The existing method also has the problem that it increases network cost as a query is forwarded to a wrong node when the original data is modified, because of the cache which still has the wrong metadata of the past and this wrong process can be conducted repeatedly at multiple nodes.Accordingly, for the existing cache management method, the solution on the replication resource utilization ratio in imbalance, and on the network cost increase due to the query transmission to a wrong node, is needed. In this paper, a cache management method for query forwarding optimization is suggested. The suggested method manages a cache using a managing processor, that is, a cache manager. A cache manager optimizes query forwarding in the way that it fetches the replication resource of the metadata at the least frequently used node by comparing the use frequency of the nodes at which replication resources are stored. In this way, query treating time and network cost can be reduced by decreasing the number of queries which are forwarded to wrong nodes using a cache manager in the suggested method. For the suggested method, the improved performance of the reduction of network cost and treating time was verified by performance evaluations.
