Functional graded electrospun gelatin-chitosan polyurethane scaffolds for cardiovascular tissue engineering
Electrospinning can be used to produce thin scaffolds suitable for applications, such as heart valve leaflets and cardiovascular field. Since the native important for the chosen material to be robust, flexible and possess comparable mechanical properties. Thermoplastic polyurethane is a suitable polymer for such cardiovascular application due to its elasticity, flexibility and good mechanical strength. This study created a trilayered scaffold with polyurethane sandwiched on each side by gelatin-chitosan layer and aimed to investigate its biocompatibility. The nanaofibrous configuration and good biocompatibility of electrospun gelatin-chitosan polyurethane demonstrated its potential as a biomaterial for cardiovascular tissue engineering.
