An Interactive Virtual Reality System for Design
Using virtual reality for interactive design will give the designer an intuitive sense of the performance of the design and allows the designer to achieve a viable, optimal solution in a timely manner. The virtual design system involves three phases mainly. First, the real geographical environment is formed. The building of virtual environment is based on RS, GIS ,and the modeling technique with MultiGen Creator. Next, several approaches to optimize the scene are presented. For the development and navigation in the third period, the platform of VC ++6.0 combined with the API of Vega is used. It provides a set of tools for users: to augment graphic elements into the virtual city, visualized query, maintenance of spatial and attribute data, colliding testing, information showing, and LADBM etc. The sample massive virtual scene of LuoGang administration center has high scene complexity, real-time, and interaction. Finally, the paper reports on a study into how models can be turned into digital canvas for urban designers to engage in 3D concept design modeling.
