Economic Analysis of EHP and GHP Systems
For mid-size buildings with a total floor area of 1,200 m2,two major air-conditioning systems which are EHP(electric heat pump) and GHP(gas engine driven heat pump) are always in competition for heating and cooling indoor spaces in Korea. In this study, economic analysis of these two systems of which the capacity is about 30 RT(refrigeration ton) is carried out.For the economic analysis, initial investment and operation costs are considered.Equipment cost, construction cost, installation cost, construction cost of electricity facility, financial subsidy and tax reduction are considered for the initial investment, while basic electricity cost, energy(electricity, gas) cost, space charge, labor cost, insurance and maintenance expense are considered for the operation cost.Cost of both systems is compared by equal annual payment method. In this method, all the initial investment is assumed to be borrowed from a financial institute and each year the same amount is paid back.Annual payment is the sum of capital repayment and interest.Life period is considered for the equipment, installed and constructed facilities. This study is useful for those who are interested in choosing the most economical heating and cooling systems for mid-size buildings.
