Buildings as Distributed Energy Networks:the Next Urban Transformation

The purpose of this paper is to explore the possibility of using buildings as distributed energy networks. We developed DICSMA (Diurnal Cross-Section Mapping Analysis) as a tool to model building use patterns in relation to energy consumption patterns.Using DICSMA to organize building use patterns,we are able to shape an energy use pattern that can improve the economics of a stand-alone distributed generation system in individual buildings and networks of buildings.
