Dynamic Simulation and Validation of a VAV System
The energy consumption by building HVAC systems has evoked increasing attention to promoting energy efficient control and operation of HVAC systems.A complete dynamic mathematical model was developed for the VAV system. The modelling was component based. An artificial neural network (ANN) model was used to model the non-linear characteristic of the fan and a non-linear characteristic terminal box model based on the experimental modelling was proposed The dynamic model developed was then validated using the experimental data obtained by the experimental rig set up for the VAV system. The simulation errors for all validation experiments are less than 0.28 ℃ for temperature outputs, and less than 28.5 m3/h for air flow outputs for the 10 min simulation time period. The dynamic model can be further used for local and supervisory control,as well as fault detection applications.
