On the Estimates of Air and Pollutant Exchange Performance for Urban Street Canyons Using the RANS Renormalized Group κ-ε Turbulence Model
In this study, the air exchange rate (ACH),pollutant exchange rate (PCH),average pollutant concentration ((☉)canyon),and pollutant retention time (ι) are adopted to demonstrate a mathematical formulation to quantify and compare the ventilation performance and air quality of street canyons.By using the Renormalized Group (RNG) κ-ε turbulence models, the newly developed formulation is applied to idealized two-dimensional (2D) street canyons with building-height-to-street-width (aspect) ratios 0.5,1,and 2.The spatial distributions of the roof-level mean vertical velocity and pollutant flux are investigated to elucidate the ventilation and pollutant removal mechanisms. The mean and turbulent components of ACH and PCH are calculated in which the turbulent component dominates the transport processes.
