A Study of Ventilation Performance of an Underfloor and Overhead Air Distribution System
The work presented here is a comparative study on the ventilation performance between underfloor air distribution (UFAD) and overhead air distribution (OHAD) systems set in a typical office environment. The research examined the influence of supply air temperature, supply air volume, and diffuser throw angle on the ventilation performance of both systems within the occupied zone based on the local mean age of air (LMA) index. The study employed both experimental and computer simulation research methods. The findings of the study revealed that for the tested cases of OHAD and UFAD there were no statistically significant differences in the LMA (t = -1.489,p = 0.141) values between like cases of OHAD and UFAD.Given the small margin of difference between the performances of the two tested air distribution systems, either system would provide similar ventilation performance for spaces with characteristics like the ones presented in this study.
