Energy Consumption Assessment of Lighting Installations Equipped with Control Systems Through the European Standard EN 15193 Approach: a First Comparison with Measured Data

The recently published European Standard 15193,which provides a calculation methodology for the evaluation of indoor lighting energy consumption, has been critically analysed in this paper.A first comparison between the results obtainable applying the Standard and by measured data from a monitoring campaign has been performed. The monitoring campaign, aimed at assessing the potential energy saving of a daylight dependent automatic dimming control system compared to a manual on-off switching system, was carried out in a school building. The results, which, at this stage of the research activity, should just be considered a first step, show a good agreement between the calculated and measured data. Some weaknesses of the EN method, in particular concerning user behaviour, have been pointed out.
